Being Vulnerable in Relationships: How to Let People Love the Real You
Being Vulnerable in Relationships: How to Let People Love the Real You

Watch the full message above — the written version below is the short of it.
You are not the story you tell yourself in your own head. You are so much more — and the people meant to love you can only do that once you let them see it.
Even when we show up openly in the world, most of us keep a great deal close to the vest. Some of that is wise: there's a real, practical discernment in choosing what to share and what to protect. But some of it is quieter and more tender — a wish to protect the fragile self-image we've worked so hard to build, an image that was never the whole truth of us anyway. This is a message about letting the true, inner self become visible on the outside, especially with the people we most want to be loved by, because your true self is the only self that can actually be loved.
Showing up as your real self will, sooner or later, invite some rejection. That sounds like a reason to hide, but it's actually the opposite: it's a healing and clearing practice. You don't want to be loved for a face you put on, because that kind of love never quite reaches you. The ones who can't meet your fullness gently fall away, and the ones who can will delight in the depth and the quirks and the specific, unrepeatable details that make you you. So pluck up your fortitude, share a little more honestly, and above all, don't reject yourself in the process. You can be discerning, too — your most tender depths are meant for the people you actually want to be intimate with, not for everyone.
Two - Lead the way by sharing what you love
Here's a gentler way to hold it: think of your openness as quietly teaching other people how to be open, too. It isn't our job to police or change how anyone else does life; it's simply to meet them in their full humanity and let ourselves be met in return. And the most inviting thing you can share is not your list of complaints but what you genuinely love — your joy, your optimism, the things you can't help paying attention to. Talking about what's wrong only tells people what you're not. Sharing what you cherish lets them actually know you.
Three - Fall in love with the mystery, and keep it light
You don't have to have it all figured out to share it. The more we grow, the more paradox we find — one thing is true and its opposite is also true, and the body and our relationships only grow more mysterious over time. So fall in love with the mystery, and let yourself be as clear as you can while admitting where you're still uncertain. Keep the whole thing playful and curious rather than heavy. Lean on your own spiritual team for the little nudge in the right moment, and share yourself a bit at a time rather than all at once, so the people you love can grow toward you as you grow toward them.
You don't need to be loved for a face you put on. Let the real you be met — there is only one of you in a sea of billions.
