How to Rewrite Your Past: A Guided Practice to Heal a Painful Memory and Reclaim Your Power

Your memories are not as fixed as they feel. When an old, painful one keeps rising up and draining you, you can go back, gently, and rewrite it, and reclaim your power, by weaving together your past, your present, and the self you are still becoming.
The past lives only in the mind. Even with the photographs and the videos, the way you remember a thing shifts over the years, softening in some places, and in others growing sharper and heavier, until a single sight or sound or smell can drop you back into it in an instant. We are here to heal, and to make brighter, more love-filled days, so here is a gentle practice for the next time an old hurt rises up. And if a memory ever feels too heavy to hold on your own, it is a kindness to yourself to do this work with a trusted therapist, or someone steady, beside you.

One

Go Back and Rewrite the Memory

When the memory comes, and it will come, take a quiet moment, close your eyes, and go back into that scene. Not to relive it. To change it. Do not stand there judging the younger you who suffered or stumbled there. Arrive instead as the self you are now, and the self you are becoming, fully empowered, carrying every resource and every divine gift you could possibly need. Be the hero for your younger self. Remake the moment exactly as you wish it had gone, and solve it in a way that sets you free. Then, every time that memory returns, go to this new version instead. Little by little the old charge softens, and loosens, and dissolves, because you are no longer replaying the wound. You are replaying the rescue.
"Your memories are not fixed. Each time one rises, you can rewrite it, and reclaim your power."
Two

Land Fully in the Present

When the scene is remade, come home to right now. Feel your feet, your weight, the way the earth is holding you and the way you are settling back into your body. Notice what you can see, what you can hear, what you can smell and taste and sense in this moment, with whatever senses are yours to use, until you are all the way here. This is the anchor of the whole practice. It tells the body that the danger is long over, that you are safe now, and that the empowered self who just went back to help is the very same self sitting here, breathing, now.
Three

Meet Your Empowered Future Self

Now go forward. Leap about five years down the line, follow the thread of that healed memory into the future, and meet the version of you who did not only survive this but turned it into fuel, who takes what you moved through and uses it to teach, and to nurture, and to heal other people. Where the old memory once drained you, this one is a wellspring, a source of power and abundance and love, a divinely inspired and divinely embodied you. That is what happens when you weave the whole timeline together. The past stops being a wound you brace against, and becomes an ally you can lean on.

If there is a memory you are ready to rewrite, come and do it with us. The Love Lady community is a gentle place to heal the past and reclaim your power together, a place to be the hero for your younger self among people who will cheer you on.
